Kit Digital is one of the best-known public grants for freelancers and small businesses in Spain looking to fund their digitalization, though how it works through vouchers and digitalization agents raises frequent questions.
What Kit Digital is
It's a public grant program, funded with European funds, that awards a digital voucher of variable amount depending on the size of the company or the number of employees of the freelancer, intended to pay for specific digitalization solutions (website, e-commerce, customer management, cybersecurity, e-invoicing, among other recognized categories).
How the voucher works: it isn't cash
Unlike other grants, the amount awarded isn't paid out as cash: it's granted as a voucher that you redeem by hiring services through an authorized digitalization agent enrolled in the program, which bills directly against that voucher.
Categories of solutions covered
Website and online presence, e-commerce, social media management, customer relationship management (CRM), business intelligence, process management, e-invoicing, secure communications, cybersecurity, and advanced digital presence, among others, each with its own maximum subsidizable amount.
General requirements
Being registered as a freelancer or SME, not being classified as a company in financial difficulty, being up to date with tax and Social Security obligations, and not having exceeded the applicable de minimis aid limit.
Before hiring, compare digitalization agents
The voucher amount is fixed, but the service offered by different digitalization agents can vary significantly in quality and scope. Comparing several proposals before committing your voucher helps you avoid ending up with a digitalization solution that doesn't really fit your business.
