Save money without going crazy

How to save money without living like a hermit or giving up everything in life.

Saving money doesn't mean becoming a hermit living on bread and water. You can save AND still have a life. The trick is spending a bit less on things you don't need.

The easiest trick in the world

Don't see the money you're saving. Set up an automatic transfer to a savings account on payday. If you don't see it, you won't spend it. Your money saves itself while you live your life.

Look for the stupid expenses

That 3-euro coffee every morning. Netflix you haven't watched in 6 months. Subscriptions you forgot you had. Add it all up and you'll be shocked where your money goes.

Small pleasures, not total deprivation

If you deny yourself EVERYTHING, eventually you'll explode and spend 500 euros in a weekend. Better: allow yourself one nice coffee on Friday, a movie you want to see, whatever. Just make it an exception, not the rule.

Cook at home instead of eating out

It's not harder. Plan your groceries. Eat what you have before it goes bad. You save money AND eat better.

Secondhand clothes aren't shameful

Second-hand sales, outlet stores, waiting for sales. Rich people do it too. Nobody knows if you bought new or used. Clothes are still clothes.

Your small weekly treat isn't bad

If you have 50 euros a month to spend guilt-free on whatever, you'll enjoy it. Better than counting cents all month long.
