Spain Minimum Vital Income (IMV) Calculator
Find out whether your household can receive Spain's Minimum Vital Income (IMV) and how much, based on how many of you there are and last year's income, plus the child supplement.
Results
Your income is above (or less than €10 below) your household's guaranteed income, so you would not qualify for the IMV.
Even without the IMV, you can claim the child supplement: your income is below its limit (three times the guaranteed income).

This is an estimate: Social Security also checks assets (excluding your main home), at least one year of legal residence and, for under-30s, having lived independently.
Guaranteed income = €733.60 × household scale (1 + 0.3 per extra member, max 2.2) + 22% for single parents + 22% for disability. IMV = guaranteed income − last year's monthly income. Child supplement: €115 (under 3), €80.50 (3-5) or €57.50 (6-17).
When should you use this calculator?
Use it if you have a low income or have lost it, to see whether applying for the IMV is worthwhile and how much you might get. It also helps families with children who earn too much for the IMV but can still get the child supplement, which many people don't know can be claimed on its own.
How it is calculated
The IMV tops up household income to a guaranteed level. For a single person that is €733.60 a month in 2026, the non-contributory pension divided by 12. Each extra member adds 30%, up to 220%, plus 22% for a single-parent household or a member with a disability of 65% or more. You receive the difference between that guaranteed income and what the household earned the previous year. On top, each child adds the child supplement.

Practical example
A single mother with a 2-year-old and an 8-year-old who earned €6,000 last year (€500 a month). Her guaranteed income is €1,335.15 (€733.60 × 1.6 + 22% single-parent). She would get €835.15 of IMV plus €172.50 of child supplement (115 + 57.50): €1,007.65 a month. A couple with children aged 10 and 12 who earned €20,000 would get no IMV, but €115 a month of child supplement.
Legal and tax context
The IMV is governed by Law 19/2021 of 20 December: requirements in articles 10 and 11 and the amount in article 13. The guaranteed income is linked to the non-contributory pension, €8,803.20 a year in 2026 under Royal Decree-law 3/2026. The child supplement (article 11.6) can be received with income up to three times the guaranteed income. It is managed by the National Social Security Institute (INSS).
Common mistakes
Common mistakes: using this year's income (last year's is used, unless it has dropped sharply); leaving out other household members' income; thinking that owning a home rules you out (the main home is excluded from assets); and not claiming the child supplement after exceeding the IMV limit, when its income limit is three times higher. You need at least one year of legal residence in Spain.

Frequently asked questions
How much is the Minimum Vital Income?
Up to €733.60 a month for a single person with no income. Larger households add 30% per extra member, up to €1,613.92 a month, plus single-parent, disability and child supplements. If you have income, you receive the difference up to the guaranteed amount.
Who can apply for the IMV?
People aged 23 or over (or adults with dependent children) legally resident in Spain for at least one year, whose previous-year income is below their household's guaranteed income and whose assets are within the limits (main home excluded).
What is the child supplement?
A monthly payment for each child in the household: €115 under 3, €80.50 from 3 to 5 and €57.50 from 6 to 17. It can be received without the IMV if household income is below three times the guaranteed income.
Can I work and receive the IMV?
Yes. Work income reduces the IMV because it is deducted from the guaranteed income, but the law allows part of it to be disregarded so that working always leaves you better off.
Is the IMV taxed?
No, it is exempt from income tax (article 7.y of the Income Tax Act). IMV recipients must also file an income tax return, even if nothing is due.
Where do I apply?
On the Social Security e-office with a digital certificate or Cl@ve, or at a Social Security office (CAISS) by appointment. Entitlement starts the month after the application, so it is worth applying as soon as possible.
